Security Companies on Long Island Stress Importance of Better Residential Protection

Posted by: Sam Samson | May 14th, 2013

Your home is the place where your family expects to be and should be safe. Safety isn’t something you can assume, however, and it requires a proactive, comprehensive approach to home security.

The Threat of Fire

The leading security companies on Long Island warn that fire is your greatest threat, and a recent report by the NFPA indicates that seven people die daily in a home fire. In 60 percent of those cases, the residence did not have a functioning smoke alarm, and you can reduce your family’s risk significantly by having a monitored smoke alarm at each level of the home.

The Threat of Carbon Monoxide and Radon

Another important yet oft-overlooked aspect of Long Island home security is protection against threats like carbon monoxide and radon. Both gases are silent killers, and by having detection integrated into your state-of-the-art home security system, you ensure full protection for your loved ones. CO2 levels can be so high that they incapacitate people, but the central station will see the alarm and dispatch emergency services to help.

The Threat of Intrusion

The most feared threat is burglary or, worse yet, home invasion. In the U.S., there are nearly 6,000 burglaries every day, and the burglary rates on Long Island continue to rise. Security companies on Long Island can install motion detection, door/window contacts, glass breakage detection and redundant connectivity that makes it impossible to cut the line in order to bypass the protection.

The Threat of a Medical Emergency

There is also the threat of a personal medical emergency, and many Long Island families deal with the burden of leaving an elderly or disabled family member home alone. With a personal emergency response system (PERS), that family member is only ever one touch away from immediate help.

Honeywell

Honeywell is the preferred manufacturer for Long Island home security because it is an innovator in the field, it is one of the most respected names in the industry worldwide and because it has an undeniable track record of success and reliability. Honeywell systems are powerful, flexible and can be customized to any residential scenario.

24-Hour Monitoring

With a Honeywell system, you know that your alarms are being monitored around the clock and 365 days a year by trained response agents. When an alarm occurs, you can be confident that the central station is going to receive it and respond to it in a timely and appropriate manner.

Remote Capabilities

Another advantage of choosing Honeywell for your Long Island home security is the Total Connect system, which allows you to access the system from any Web-enabled device. In other words, from your smartphone, you can lock doors, adjust the thermostat and even watch security camera feeds.

World Wide Security Group

World Wide Security Group (WWSG) is one of the leading security companies on Long Island and the preferred Honeywell-authorized dealer. World Wide has been serving Suffolk County, Nassau County, Metro New York and clients throughout the United States since 1979. In the three-plus decades since, World Wide has earned an impeccable reputation for integrity and customer satisfaction.

New NFPA Report Calls for Better Fire Protection in New York Homes

Posted by: Sam Samson | May 4th, 2013

Proper fire protection in New York residences is a significant and growing concern, and the statistics show that most homes are not adequately configured to prevent and detect fires.

New Fire Statistics Published by NFPA

According to a new report by the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA), seven people die on average in a house fire in the U.S. every day. Each year, one in 320 homes will experience a fire, and the financial damages will surpass one billion dollars. Cooking is the leading cause of house fires and fire-related injuries, smoking is the leading cause of fire-related deaths and senior citizens are the most likely to die due to smoke inhalation or directly from fire. Sadly, the statistics also indicate that more than 60 percent of all fire-related deaths take place in homes that do not have operational smoke detectors.

Proper Fire Prevention

The NFPA’s report also included a series of guidelines and tips that you can use to achieve better fire protection in your New York home. Cooking and smoking are focal points, and in both cases, you can prevent nearly all common fires simply by establishing good habits.

Never smoke in the home, require guests to smoke outdoors and if it is a common occurrence, establish a smoking area that has adequate clearance and a safe ashtray. Ideally, the area should be at least several feet away from the home, but if it is not, consider installing a smoke detector in the area.

The most common mistake people make when cooking is leaving the oven or other device on while unattended. Make it a rule not to do that. Briefly turning the heat off will not ruin your food, and if you are caught up doing something else, it is better to ruin a meal than to start a fire in your home.

It is also important to perform a routine inspection of your environment each month. Indoors, check all electrical cords, outlets, fixtures and devices for signs of wear. Outside, check the perimeter of the home and the roof. Ideally, avoid any inflammable items in these fire ignition zones.

Fire Detection

Most residential Long Island security systems can integrate fire detection as well. This is the ideal scenario because then smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors and similar devices are monitored by a central station around the clock. If a fire does occur, the central station handles dispatching emergency services while you focus on navigating your family to safety. You should have at least one smoke detector at each level of the home, including the attic and basement, but some areas call for additional devices, such as bedrooms, kitchens and garages.

World Wide Security Group

World Wide Security is the leading provider of Long Island security systems, and the company specializes in designing fire prevention and detection that is unique to your home. World Wide’s fire systems are monitored around the clock and throughout the year by a local central station that has a perfect record for uptime and performance. World Wide’s systems do not require a phone line and can use a cellular network to maintain contact if the Wi-Fi network is not available.

Ultimate Home Security in New York through Control 4

Posted by: Sam Samson | April 30th, 2013

The latest trend in Long Island security is home control, also called smart home technology. The concept is to automate the home, secure it and consolidate access to that unified system. From a keypad, a television or even a mobile device, you can control your entire home.

Control 4

The Control 4 system, which is available through World Wide Security Group, a leading provider of home security in New York, is the most sophisticated example of such smart home technology. Each home and family is unique, and Control 4 is infinitely versatile in a way that allows you to design the perfect control system. Security

A modern home security system has a wide range of features, including burglar alarms, smoke detectors and surveillance cameras. With Control 4, it is simple to add and remove devices, and each device has its own easy-to-use interface. From the comfort of your couch, you can arm or disarm the system or individual access points. The system also has remote access so that you can manipulate it, or even watch streams from the video cameras, from any Web-enabled device, including smartphones.

Comfort

Imagine adjusting your thermostat using your Control 4 remote, a smartphone or even the TV remote from the comfort of your couch. The thermostats connected to the system are also completely programmable. The system is even smart enough to monitor trends and suggest programming. If the thermostat is not scheduled and left on, Control 4 will detect when everyone has left the home and send a push notification alerting you.

Lighting

Control 4 provides similar capabilities for all lighting inside and outside the home. The system also supports an unlimited number of user-defined zones. Using zones, you can have the lights in different areas of the house turn off and on at different times. If no one is home and the lights are left on, the system can alert you or even be set to shut them down automatically without bothering you.

Entertainment

Control 4 doesn’t just control the boring stuff. It can control televisions, audio equipment, computers or any other equipment that support IR or Bluetooth. This isn’t just a basic universal remote; you can custom-tailor the system to support the specific features of your entertainment environment.

Security in Long Island is More than Home Security

Posted by: Sam Samson | April 17th, 2013

Long Island is a large and busy part of the country, and having home security helps make residents of this area feel much safer. Unfortunately, however, technology today requires more than just home and business security since stealing identities is on the rise. For a person or business to be properly protected, they must think of their identity when they think of getting great protection for their assets and their life.

A company who understands the need for security in Long Island is World Wide Security Group, a company who is dedicated to making sure their customers are aware of the dangers that exist to their identities and making sure that they are using the right precautions to protect themselves. Having one’s identity stolen is a reality that happens daily, and prevention is key to making sure it doesnot ruin your credit and finances. Long Island security companies are making it a goal to keep their customers informed and protected when it comes to identity theft and fraud for the best protection available.

When it comes to being protected, a person can never be too careful with their identity. There are several things a person can do to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of identity theft. In addition to never carrying a social security card on their person, to making sure their mail does not contain personal information when it hits the trash, a person can also make sure they have a different password for every online action and make sure they change them monthly. Also, making sure they only use secure pages of a website when inputting sensitive information like account numbers is a must these days.

Having one’s identity stolen can be devastating, and unfortunately this type of offense happens to people every day. People often don’t find out for months or even years that their identities have been tampered with, and it can cost a lot of time and money to make things right again. This is why security in Long Island is ever-changing to encompass the new and current needs for security today.

World Wide Security Group and other Long Island security companies want to make sure that their customers are aware of how easy it is to have their identities stolen, and to make them equally aware of the simple precautions they can take every day to prevent their identities from being stolen next. In working with their customers to keep them informed, security companies are seeking to make it harder and harder for a person’s identity to be taken from them and placed into the wrong hands.

A person can never truly be too safe, and with the care and support of a security company like World Wide Security Group, customers can feel more confident about how their identities are being protected and can feel safe doing daily tasks. Security in Long Island is about keeping customers safe in all regards, and part of making that happen is giving people the knowledge to keep themselves protected against identity theft in the first place.

The Tuxedo Touch is Revolutionizing Home Automation in New York

Posted by: Sam Samson | March 22nd, 2013

Energy efficiency is important for every homeowner to take into consideration. You don’t want to waste energy or money when you don’t have to. It can be difficult to know exactly what to do to make your house energy efficient, but the Honeywell Tuxedo Touch system can make it happen with the push of a button.

What is Tuxedo Touch?

Tuxedo Touch is a home automation system now available from one of the top-rated Long Island security companies, World Wide Security Group. It is a system for home automation in New York that works remotely from a touchscreen controller. The wide display and simple interface allow you to control your household devices quickly and easily. It can also be integrated with a home security system so you can keep your house controlled as well as safe.

Security

Honeywell’s Tuxedo Touch is not only about home automation in New York, it’s also about home security. Tuxedo Touch easily integrates with a home security system, which allows you to manage your security system remotely. You can turn the system on or off, monitor system activity and change settings all from the Tuxedo Touch system.

Cameras

Another way Tuxedo Touch benefits home security is by providing you with a camera system for your home. You can easily watch any area of your home when you’re not there through a remote internet connection.

Lights

Lights are one of the main culprits in wasting energy. If your lights don’t need to be on, they shouldn’t be on. If you left a light on at home after you left or the upstairs lights are on when you’re going to be staying downstairs for a while, you can use the Tuxedo Touch system to turn them off instantly. You can also dim lights that are fitted with a dimmer through the Tuxedo Touch system to create instant mood lighting or to use less electricity if you need certain lights on.

Thermostat

Properly controlling the thermostat can also be an issue with energy efficiency. Some areas of the house don’t need to be the same temperature as others, and you may forget the change the setting when leaving the room. In addition, you may forget to lower the thermostat when you leave the house, or you may want it warming up the house for your return. Tuxedo Touch allows you to control all of these settings from your interactive remote control.

Shades

Sunlight can illuminate your home as well as provide it with warmth. You can save a lot of money on both your electricity and heating bills if you let the sunshine in. Tuxedo Touch allows you to have full control over your shades. You can leave them open all day to allow the bright and warm rays of sunlight into your home and then shut them all automatically when you want some privacy at night. Or on the other hand, you can remotely shut them on summer days to keep the rooms cool.

Day and Night Detection

A useful feature of Tuxedo Touch is the ability to change the settings of certain household items such as the lights and thermostat depending on what time of the day it is. The lights can instantly come on when the sun sets and go off when the sun comes up. You can also set your own times to activate certain changes in the system.

There are many Long Island security companies to choose from, but if you want the home automation benefits of Tuxedo Touch, contact World Wide Security Group today.

World Wide can help transform an extra room in your house into the man cave or party room for family and friends.

A new home theater system or audio system can be at your disposal in a matter of moments. The technician will meet with you and design your theater to your likings. Projection television, high definition plasma, or surround sound are simple to install with the easy to use remote devise. Each home theater system uses only the best equipment such as Pioneer, Sharp, JBL, and Boston Acoustics.

It is easy to transform your extra room or basement into a home theater or “Man Cave”. The space can be easily set up with gaming tables, large screen plasma televisions, surround sound, and comfortable seating. Having access to snacks is as important as the entertainment, so adding a small dorm size refrigerator and cook stove will make this area perfect for entertaining your friends.

If a family has young adults or teenagers in the house, a theater is the perfect outlet for them and their friends. Music videos never seemed as real as they do on the surround sound plasma television and dance area. Comfortable seating is optional. Providing theater seating or comfortable couches gives them a place to relax with friends while giving the parents the security of knowing their kids are unharmed. World Wide is one of the Long Island security companies that has a dedicated team of technologists that will come out to your house and examine the space. They will provide ideas of how to incorporate your room and entertainment to best suit your needs and budget.

Video Surveillance Provides the Best in Long Island Security Systems

Posted by: Sam Samson | February 28th, 2013

One of the last things I expected when I was watching that house was the fact that the owner had a CCTV/Digital Video Surveillance system in place and that they were able to see what was happening in their home. I thought it was going to be easy. The owner left in the morning to go to work like clockwork every day, leaving the place empty and unattended, so I thought. This was going to be a productive day, no dogs to deal with and a nice, quiet neighborhood.

My Mistake Was Thinking This Would Be Simple

I assumed I would be able to get in and out quickly after helping myself to electronic equipment, jewelry, and anything else that wasn’t nailed down. Little did I know that this guy had a video surveillance system from World Wide Security – one of the best security companies in Long Island, NY. I have to admit this guy was pretty smart to have it installed in his home.

While I hated the fact that I was caught, I also found it fascinating that one of these Long Island security systems was able to catch me the way it did. The pictures were amazing. Video does not lie and I had no way to claim that it wasn’t me. There was my face on that screen clearly and unmistakably. I had this sinking feeling that this time I really was caught, and this time I might end up doing some time for my actions.

Video Surveillance Provides The Best Protection From Theft

When homeowners contact World Wide Security about installing one of these Long Island security systems, expert installers are sent out to the home to set up the system. The technicians know exactly where to put each of the CCTV/Digital Video Surveillance cameras for the best angles for viewing, and not making them stick out like a sore thumb.

Once the cameras are in place, the homeowner is able to watch everything going on in his home when he is not there. This is what happened that day I decided to venture into this guy’s home to take whatever I wanted. I had no idea he was watching me from his office computer and was able to immediately contact authorities. Apparently, he had some motion sensor that triggered the cameras and sent screen shots to him to let him know what was happening. Technology!

Keep Guys Like Me From Doing What I Do

Video surveillance is the best way to keep guys like me away from your home. When I was picking a place to break into, I would always look for the home that would be easiest to compromise. I wanted to get in and out quickly and undetected. The homeowner would find out later that someone had been inside his home. And it was too late for them to do anything about it.

Today when a homeowner contacts their security company in Long Island for a video surveillance system, it makes my job, or what used to be my job, a lot more difficult. In fact, I can say that I would stay away from any home protected by CCTV/Digital Video Surveillance from now on. For me, this realization came too late. I am where I deserve to be, and I will be here for a long time.

Long Island Alarm Systems Should Include CO Detectors

Posted by: Sam Samson | February 21st, 2013

Carbon monoxide (CO) is a silent killer, and unfortunately, this toxic gas contributes to hundreds of lost lives in America every year. Since anything that runs on fuel can emit toxic levels of carbon monoxide, it’s important to protect the home from this odorless, colorless, and tasteless gas by having working carbon monoxide detectors installed, and have all appliances that run on fuel checked periodically.

Security companies on Long Island share concerns with any homeowners who want to protect their families from carbon monoxide by providing high quality and effective carbon monoxide detectors that can be installed quickly and easily. Similar to smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors work by measuring the amount of carbon monoxide in the air and alerting people within the home of possible dangerous levels by setting of a loud noise. Having a carbon monoxide detector installed in the home can create peace of mind for any homeowner, particularly if they use a water heater, furnace, or wood stove that can create potentially fatal levels of carbon monoxide that nobody in the home can detect on their own.

Long Island alarm systems often include monitored carbon monoxide detectors. The central monitoring station that watches over your alarm system is also notified of elevated carbon monoxide levels in your house, and  can immediately send help to you. This is especially handy when you are away so that you don’t come home to a house full of toxic gas, and a detector that has dead batteries.

A professional can also recommend other ways people can protect themselves against carbon monoxide poisoning, including having their furnaces and water heaters inspected, having proper ventilation, and keeping fresh batteries in the detectors. If a person is concerned about carbon monoxide poisoning in their home, they should choose security companies on Long Island that include the installation of carbon monoxide detectors for added safety, like that of World Wide Security in Garden City.

Regardless of whether you have a store-bought CO detector, or a monitored one as part of your security system, it should be checked or inspected at least once a year to make sure the unit is working properly. It is also wise to place them in areas where they can be most effective, like above a furnace or in hallways outside sleeping areas.

Since carbon monoxide poisoning resembles the common flu or illness, including nausea, dizziness, fatigue and headaches, it can be difficult to suspect poisoning from this silent gas. This is why a carbon monoxide detector is so important to have in the home.

Carbon monoxide is very dangerous, and anyone can fall victim to this deadly gas. The best way to protect the home and everyone within it is to have carbon monoxide detectors installed professionally. This way, everyone in the home can protected against the noxious gas, and making a much safer place to live for everyone.

New York Security Systems Make All the Difference

Posted by: Sam Samson | December 19th, 2012

For many years, I was able to get away with burglarizing local homes and businesses. It was easy enough for me to find the perfect time of day to break into someone’s house. Most times, I would break in by prying open a first-story window while the homeowners were at work. From there, I would easily gain access to their most prized and valuable possessions, including electronics, jewelry, and sometimes, even cash. I was even able to take my time burglarizing the houses I broke into because neighbors were not usually home, either. Believe me, I had spent a few weeks watching their habits and making note of who had an alarm installed.

When it came to breaking into businesses, I would usually do this at night, after they had closed up shop. From there, I could help myself to any products off the shelf that I wanted. In addition, I usually had enough time to bust open a cash register or break into a safe in order to walk out with cash.

One night a couple of months ago, however, my luck changed for the worse. It was just after two o’clock in the afternoon, and I thought I had found the perfect home to break into. I located the ideal window to pry open and I knew that this particular family had all kinds of valuable possessions just waiting for me to steal. However, as soon as I got the window open, I heard an alarm go off. I had no idea, but the residents had New York home security systems from World Wide Security installed just a couple of days prior. This was something that I had overlooked, and I immediately regretted it.

With the New York home security system that they had, the police were notified immediately.I tried to run off, but many neighbors came outside at the sound of the alarm and saw the direction in which I had fled. It was not more than ten minutes later that the local police caught me. At first, I thought that if I could have just run away faster, I would have been able to get away without being caught. However, I later found out that the security company in Queens NY that they had hired installed a security camera system as well. Essentially, I would have eventually been caught because the CCTV system installed by World Wide Security had captured a clear image of me.

Now, I am awaiting my trial for this case, and I am certain that I will end up in jail for attempted burglary. There is simply too much evidence against me to the point that I do not have a chance in court. If I can convince anyone to think twice about breaking into someone’s home, then one good thing has come of this situation.

GARDEN CITY, N.Y.—World Wide Security/GC Alarm has been selected by Honeywell as one of its First Alert Professional dealers to introduce Tuxedo Touch to the marketplace, the company announced last week.

“We’re getting it out the market now and we’re getting a good response,” Joe Ingegno, VP of World Wide/GC Alarm, based here, told Security Systems News. “We did a lot of the program to beta test the product and we were the most familiar with it, so it was easier for us to sell it when it came on the market.”
